I am sure that everybody has heard before “Diamonds are forever”. Well, this is not just a marketing move! Read below and learn why.
The resistance of the diamonds is very famous, and far from being a myth, at the present time it’s considered the hardest* material known on Earth. The Greeks used the word “Amamantem” to describe it, the meaning in English would be “indestructible”.
But let’s apply the science here, in the Physic hardness levels, more specifically in the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, the diamond reaches the maximum score, 10. Due to this fact, for being able to carve a diamond, the only tool we can use is, simply, another diamond.
To find the hardest diamonds on Earth, we would have to go to the New England area, located in New South Wales, Australia. In that place we can find the ones that are often used to carve and polish other gemstones.
Knowing this, we can easily understand why they are very often used for jewelry. Their properties make them truly resistant to scratches and cuts, and this is the main reason of why this gemstone has become the most used for engagement rings, since we must wear these (I know a couple friends that would disagree with this fact…) everyday. The concepts of diamond ring, and diamond jewelry have become symbol of wealth and distinction.
*Hardest being defined as – Resistance to be scratched.
